The Flickering Square
21. Januar – 3. März 2012
Hebel_121 is delighted to present for the first time in Switzerland Japanese artist Mitsunori Kurashige with a site specific work. His friend from Paris sound artist Maki Nakano has played alto sax and métallo-clarinette at the opening.
In his catalogue, Odd present from 1992, Mitsunori Kurashige is relating to his thoughts about making pictures.
Looking at a blank sheet of paper, I often think of pictures. What should I base the picture on or what would make a picture? First of all a square, something close to a square frame. A square picture frame is something that I draw over and over again. While realizing that it has no meaning, there is a will to continue doing so. It is important to continue drawing square shapes closely related to each other. The function of the picture affects me like the wave breaking onto and pulling away from the seashore. push back the wave into the work. This action of ‚rechannelling‘ can be referred to as the function of the picture. Measuring the blank time and space, and sliding on the surface from side to side. Meaning the will of wanting, and knowing the pleasure of difference. This is drawing a picture for me.
